Increased Productivity Through
Awareness Of Thermal Comfort

00 / Design Goal

Working from home is a new normal. Indoor air quality and thermal comfort in homes may hinder optimal productivity. Planto takes up these challenges by raising awareness, particularly to facilitate remote workers’ work-life balance.

01 / Process

During the project, we applied data-enabled design as the main design framework. It is a method, including contextual and informed steps. It aims to bring data as creative materials into the design process

Informed Step.

These LEDs are placed in a line in a vertical position with two colors. The gree indicates the current state of the environment on a scale from 1 to 5 with the the lowest LED representing the lowest quality of the environment and the highest LED representing the best air quality.

The participants were able to reply to these recommendations, so the researchers could see if they followed the guidance or not.  Besides, the participant can set their preferred productivity level by touching the leaf of PLANTO.

02 / Findings from Interview & UX Questionnaire

1. The suggestions on Telegram were not always consistent and applicable. It should fit the user's actions to improve air quality.

2. Specifying the suggestion and reasoning for the user is crucial.

03 / Next Step

1. PLANTO could understand the context better and evolve suggestions to suit the space and capabilities of the user.

2. The system could guide users away from that environment and boost their concentration.
